چکیده

purpose: to determine the effect of induced myopia and hyperopia using soft contact lenses on optic disc parameters measured by fourier domain optical coherence tomography (fd-oct) in emmetropic persons. methods: in a quasi-experimental self controlled study, 57 normal emmetropic participants 18-42 years of age were studied. each subject underwent a complete ophthalmic examinations including measurement of best corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure, dry and cycloplegic refractions and axial length. oct scans to measure optic disc parameters were repeated in 114 cycloplegic eyes of 57 participants, while different refraction powers were induced in each eye by wearing soft contact lenses of five different powers (-10.00, -5.00, plano, +5.00, +10.00). results: mean age of participants was 25.8±6.5 years. average rnfl thickness was 123.29±10.56 µ, 123.17±11.61 µ, 122.77±11.61 µ, 123.37±11.15 µ, 123.42±11.45 µ in high-induced-myopia, mild-induced-myopia, emmetropia (contact lens:plano), mild-induced-hyperopia, and high-induced-hyperopia groups, respectively. corresponding values for average cup area were 0.65±0.53 mm2, 0.63±0.53 mm2, 0.63±0.52 mm2, 0.64±0.56 mm2, and 0.64±0.54 mm2 respectively also in these groups neither disc area nor rim area measurements were statistically different. conclusion: using fourier domain oct, inducing myopia and hyperopia by soft contact lens has no significant effect on rnfl thickness, disc area, cup area and rim area.

Choroidal thinning in high myopia measured by optical coherence tomography

PURPOSE To investigate the rate of choroidal thinning in highly myopic eyes. PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective observational study of 37 eyes of 26 subjects (nine males and 17 females, mean age 39.6 ± 7.7 years) with high myopia but no pathologies who had undergone spectral domain optical coherence tomography and repeated the test 1 year later (1 ± 0.25 year) at Osaka University Hospital, ...

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography of the Optic Disc; an Overview

Different diseases of the optic disc may be caused by or lead to abnormal vasculature at the optic nerve head. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a novel technology that provides high resolution mapping of the retinal and optic disc vessels. Recent studies have shown the ability of OCTA to visualize vascular abnormalities in different optic neuropathies. In addition, quantified ...

Optical coherence tomography angiography of optic disc perfusion in glaucoma.

PURPOSE To compare optic disc perfusion between normal subjects and subjects with glaucoma using optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography and to detect optic disc perfusion changes in glaucoma. DESIGN Observational, cross-sectional study. PARTICIPANTS Twenty-four normal subjects and 11 patients with glaucoma were included. METHODS One eye of each subject was scanned by a high-speed ...

Effect of contact lens power on optical coherence tomography of the retinal nerve fiber layer.

PURPOSE To study the effect of contact lens (CL) power on retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness measurements using optical coherence tomography (OCT). METHODS Cross-sectional study on 15 healthy subjects. Peripapillary RNFL thickness was measured using time-domain OCT without CL and with CL of different powers (+4 D, +10, -4D, and -10 D), and again without CL. RNFL thickness measurements...

Central Macular Thickness in Children with Myopia, Emmetropia, and Hyperopia: An Optical Coherence Tomography Study

PURPOSE To investigate the central macular thickness (CMT) in myopic, emmetropic, and hyperopic Chinese children using Optical Coherence Tomography. METHODS 168 right eyes of Chinese subjects aged 4-18 were divided into 3 groups based on their postcycloplegic spherical equivalent: myopes (<-1.0 D); emmetropes (≥-1.0 to ≤+1.0 D); and hyperopes (>+1.0 D) and the CMT was compared before/after ag...

Application of optical coherence tomography to automated contact lens metrology.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a nondestructive imaging modality with the potential to make quantitative spatial measurements. OCT's noncontact nature, sensitivity to small refractive index mismatches, and micron-scale resolution make it attractive for contact lens metrology, specifically, measuring prism. Prism is defined as the maximum difference in thickness of the contact lens, measu...
